In a play-deprived culture where recess is deemed an unnecessary educational endeavor and people are encouraged to grow up much too soon;
In a culture that thinks of me first and affirms independence as a supreme virtue;
In a hurried and harried culture driven by profits and bottom-line efficiency, often to the detriment of our common humanity;
In a culture that has forgotten that everything good comes about through abundant joy and the passion of love;
In a culture where politics and economics drive people apart and distrust of others is growing in epidemic proportions;
In a culture where youth sports have become an end-all-be-all industry;
As a representative of the Catch 365 Movement, I will:
Keep my glove handy, and an extra nearby;
Be creative in including all people who want to play catch;
Trust in my catch-partner’s good intentions;
Actively listen to the stories of my catch partners without judgment;
Ask thoughtful questions of my catch partners, and give honest answers in return;
Extend playful peace in the face of nervousness or anxiety;
Look for opportunities to make new friends;
Offer grace and a smile when errant throws happen;
Persevere through broken laces, bad weather, and sore muscles;
Be grateful for the gift of Today;
Set aside digital distractions, yesterday’s regrets, and tomorrow’s fears for the duration of the game;
Celebrate the wonder of all humankind;
Have fun.
